‘Call off your senseless Heath Walk’ – Amos bares teeth at NPP Greater Accra Youth Organizer

Deputy Greater Accra Regional Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress, Amos Blessing Amorse has taken a swipe at the Greater Regional Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party, Moses Abor, describing his decision to organize a Heath walk in the midst of spread of COVID19 as ‘senseless’.

According to the youth leader of the biggest opposition Party in the capital region, youth leaders should be concerned about educating their followers on preventive measures rather than seeking to use them to advance the interest political Parties.

In a no hold bar post on his Facebook wall as a reaction to a flyer by the NPP regional youth Wing to organize a health walk on April 4 in support of compilation of new voters register, Mr Amorse wrote that, it was time the NPP regional youth organizer puts on ‘his thinking cup’

Read below Mr Amorse’s post:

Isn’t this senseless to say the least? At a time countries all over the world are fighting tooth and nail to discourage social gatherings to avert the spread of the deadly virus, COVID19, this is what Akufo Addo’s NPP Greater Accra Youth Wing led by an irresponsible chap called Moses Abor is planning to organize. Should it always be about our political party’s interest and how to win the next election? Can’t we for once be united in preaching strict adherence to safety and preventive measures?

For the NPP, whatever happens to Ghanaians do not concern them. Countries have directed churches, mosques, schools etc to close down. Some countries have turned their hotels into referral centres. In our own country, University of Ghana and other institutions have put lectures and exams on hold. But this roadside shallow thinker of a regional youth organizer wants to mobilize young people in the capital city onto the street for a walk in support of voter registration without thinking about the health implications. The Electoral Commission itself, if it’s really made up of people with conscience, should be reading itself to call off the planned registration in the midst of this world catastrophe.

If this programme was planned before the deadly virus hit Ghana, as a proactive youth leader whose head is properly fixed to his neck, he should have by now called it off. I have read news about Universities cancelling their SRC week celebrations, Halls cancelling their Hall week celebrations, event organizers calling off their events etc. The rate at which the virus is spreading should be of major concern to all of us, especially youth leaders. We owe it a responsibility to school our followers on the preventive measures. It is unconscionable to risk the life of Ghanaians in furtherance of a political agenda. What would it profit a political party when it manages to get EC to go ahead with it’s registration but the citizens are ravaged by this deadly virus?

The NDC flag bearer, John Dramani Mahama will not sanction such as gathering at this time even if that is what will fetch him victory. The NDC National Youth Organizer, Lawyer George Opare Addo and my boss, the Greater Accra Regional Youth Organizer, Hon Thomas Mustapha Ashong will never commit resources to such a programme at this time. They cherish the life of the youth and they see them as partners in building a prosperous nation not exalted tools to be used to prosecute political agenda and dumped afterwards.

If the NPP Regional Youth Organizer is not aware, which I am sure he is not, his own Health Minister has announced that the number of victims have jumped from 2 to 6 of which about 150 people have been documented to have had contact with the victims. All these persons are potential carriers of the virus. As we speak, nobody knows the identity of the victims neither do we know the identity of 150 potential carriers. This is the main reason why there is a sonorous call on all of us to avoid social gatherings. You may not know who is carrying the virus. So if you put people on the street and one potential carrier finds his/her way into them, you have exposed the whole country to grave danger.

A reasonable person in the NPP should for once get Moses Abor to put on his thinking cap; that is, if he has one. His tomfoolery should not be extended to this level. I pity the youth in NPP Greater Accra. This is what you get when you place a whole youth Wing in the hands of an out-layer whose claim to fame is needless showmanship. The few sensible ones in the Party should cancel this programme immediately before Moses Abor himself gets infested.
