Brong Ahafo wins Republic day basketball competition

Brong Ahafo region disabled wheelchair sports club ” Eagle Shooters” in Ho beat their Greater Accra regional counterpart 26 – 18 in a four regional wheelchair basketball competition played at Ho Sports Stadium.

The participants were, Ashanti region, Northern region, Greater Accra region and the Brong Ahafo region.

Brong Ahafo recorded the shocking result over the Ashanti region at the Ho sports stadium.

National Team captain Botsyo Nkegbe and Best player of the Tournament Isaac Antwi played a starring role in the win.

Heading to the game, the Ashanti region was heavily tipped to win the competition considering the experienced group it presented.

However, Brong Ahafo region played as a strong unit to beat all the three regions ” Ashanti region, Greater Accra region and Northern region ”

Max Vardon, President wheelchair basketball federation appealed to government and to people in responsible positions, especially politicians and businessmen to invest in wheelchair basketball since it an area that can bring solace to many who have neglected.

Head coach for the Brong Ahafo team, Peter Amankwaah Boadi called for sponsorship from firms and companies to enable them organize more of such competitions for the disabled in society.

He also urged stakeholders and individuals to assist the teams with equipment.

According to Botsyo Nkegbe, Captain Brong Ahafo regional team, Brong Ahafo wheelchair basketball team has dominated over fifteen years, and they expecting to do more.

In an interview with Metro News the regional captain who double as national team captain said they have conquered all the regions now they expecting foreign matches.

Brong Ahafo region occupied the first position with three wins followed by Ashanti region, Greater Accra region placed third and the Northern region occupied the forth position.
