The Heads of the two ruling houses and kingmaker of the Ngleshie Alata Paramount Stool James Town, have officially announced the demised of Oblempong Nii Kojo Ababio V, James Town Mantse and Paramount Chief of Ngleshie Alata traditional council.
[ads1]Announcing his sad demise, Nii Sackey Akumea VI, acting Dzaasetse of the Paramount Stool and Head of Wetse Kojo We of Mantse We indicated that final funeral rites of the late paramount Chief will be announced later.
Meanwhile, he indicated clearly that the official announcement was made jointly by Nii Klemekuku II of Kofi Akrashie We of Adrenaline Dawurampong and Nii Sackey Akumia VI, acting Dzaasetse of the paramount stool and head of Wetse Kojo We of Mantse We, Nii Appiah V paramount stool father, and kingmaker of the Decade, Nii Sampan Kojo XI, osiahene and head of the kingmaker of the Decade, Bio Sackey Smash V, kingmaker of the Decade of the Ngleshie Alata paramount stool; all heads and kingmaker of the paramount stool.
Profile Oblempong Nii Kojo Ababio V:
Oblempong Nii Kojo Ababio V who is known in private life as Mr. Ezekiel Quarmina AlloteiCoffei and popularly called Dentist Cofie was born on Saturday the 12th of June 1920 at James Town, British Accra.
He was born to the late Mr. William Cofie of Aflagai Shia, Naa Korle We, James Town and Madam Delphina Owoo from the Krotia Division Adjumako of the Royal Stool of Ngleshie Alata (James Town).
Young Ezekiel started school at the age of 5 at Accra Royal School. In 1934 he gained admission to Achimota College to pursue a three year secondary education. He wrote the Senior Cambridge Examination in the sciences and passed with flying colours in 1938. Ezekiel followed this up in pursuance of a postsecondary course with another flying colours in London University Matriculation Examination.
During the World War II, Ezekiel gained admission to University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom. He therefore left the shores of the Gold Coast for the U.K by sea in 1945. In Edinburg, Ezekiel pursued a course in dentistry and after four years in the University he graduated as a Dental Surgeon Licentiate in dentistry at the Royal College of Surgeons in 1949, Scotland. Whiles pursuing his professional studies in Scotland he took some time off to train and compete in athletics in the university in Edinburg. Ezekiel specialized in the sprints and went on to win a Bronze Medal at World Students̕ Games in Paris.
WORKING EXPERIENCE
Mr. Ezekiel Quarmina AlloteiCofie returned home in 1949 to join the Gold Coast Medical Service. He joined people like Brown, Oddoye and Adu Aryee all of blessed memory to form the core pioneers of the dental practice in the country. Dentist Cofie as he popularly became known established dentistry in a number of towns in the country. Hospital in places like Kumasi, Tamale, SekondiTakorida, Sunyani, Koforidua and Ho were places that he helps to establish dentistry attached to those hospitals.
Whiles in active service, he attended various seminars in Dental Health Programmes in New York, USA, London in the United Kingdom and New Delhi (India) just to mention a few. After 26 years of distinguished service as a Dental Surgeon in the Ministry of Health, Dentist Cofie finally retired in 1975. Three year into retirement as a Civil Servant, Mr. Ezekiel Quarmina AlloteiCoffie was enstooled as James Town Mantse under the stool name of Nii Kojo Ababio V from the Nii Kofi Akrashie lineage. A stool he has occupied till today.
A TRADITIONAL RULER
As a traditional ruler, Oblempong Nii Kojo Ababio V has served in various capacities. He was a member of the Greater Accra House of Chiefs for many years. He became a member of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs when it ceded from the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs.
As a member of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, he represented the House at the Lands Commission. A position he has held up to date. He is currently the Senior Advisor of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs which he is a founding member.
ACHIEVEMENT
The greatest achievement of Oblempong Nii Kojo Ababio V in his thirtysix years reign as a chief of James Town is supervising the elevation of Ngleshie Alata to the status of PARAMOUNTCY in 2011. Consequently, Oblempongʼs status rose to become Paramount Chief and President of Ngleshie Alata Traditional Council. These achievements cannot be established without noting his personal attributes.
He is Gentle, soft spoken, generous, fair but firm, affable and above all approachable. Added to these attributes are his firm adherence to this Christian principles and his ability to accommodate the acceptable traditional and cultural practices in the performance of his royal duties. Mr. Ezekiel Quarmina AlloteiCofie for a long time served as a steward of the defunct Accra Turf Club. He was and still a patron of Accra Great Olympics Football Club.
He is happily married to Mrs. Florence Ansaah Cofie for over sixty years and is blessed with nine (9) children (3 boys and 6 girls). May his reign as a Paramount Chief of Ngleshie Alata ensure legacy that will stand the test of time.
