In his State of the Nation Address on February 27, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama firmly assured Ghanaians that his government would continue with the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, emphasizing his unwavering support for the initiative.

“Let me make it clear, I, President John Dramani Mahama, will not cancel Free SHS,” he stated confidently, earning applause from the Majority side of Parliament.

The Free SHS policy, originally introduced by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been a subject of debate in the country. President Mahama’s assurance reinforces his commitment to the program, despite criticisms and challenges that may arise during its implementation.

Additionally, the President clarified discrepancies in the NPP’s claim that 5.1 million students had benefited from the program. According to Mahama, the accurate figure is 3.1 million, underlining his dedication to ensuring transparency in the policy’s execution.
