Kofi Annan deserves a state burial – Asiedu Nketiah

The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has said that the late former United Nations General Secretary Kofi Annan should be given a state burial.

He said that will send a clear signal that Ghana appreciated that his contributions to attaining world peace.

“Kofi Annan was a principled man who believed in the well-being of humans. His contribution was not only for Ghana but for the whole world and that made us special. So I believe it will be best if he is given a state burial,” he said on Accra based Neat FM.

The former Nobel Peace laureate, Kofi Annan passed away in Switzerland on Saturday after a short illness.

President Akufo-Addo has directed that the Ghanaian flag flies at half-mast across the country and in the country’s foreign missions abroad in deference to the deceased, who some described as Ghana’s gift to the international community.

The career diplomat joined the UN in 1962 and rose through the ranks to become the world body’s Secretary-General.

He was 80 years.
