The Deputy Greater Accra Regional Youth Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress – NDC, Amos Blessing Amorse has taken to his Facebook page to commended the efforts of the Member of Parliament of LEDZOKUKU Constituency, Ben Ayiku to bring development to his people.
Ben Ayiku he said is using his grader to repaired some deplorable roads in his Constituency, a job he says falls in the domain of the Central government and the District Assembly for which he added that government will not do since the MP in the area is from the opposition side.
“In Ghana, the ruling Party is always not willing to extent help to MPs of opposition Parties. The ruling Party wrongly assume that when they develop areas they do not have MPs, it will make things difficult for their candidates to beat those MPs in future.” – He said
“MPs like Hon Ben Ayiku are the ones I always pity and never wish to trade their positions with them. He spent so much to win internal primaries, spent almost quadruple of what he spent in the primaries to beat an incumbent MP who was deputy Minister of Health only for his Party to lose the main Election. His Party losing the main election means he must go the extra mile to serve his people without the support of the government of the day.” – Mr. Amorse cries.
According to him, Mr. Ayiku is “representing one of the ‘difficult’ Constituencies in Greater Accra. What makes his case worse was declaration by the man he beat in the election that he will stage a comeback in the next election. This declaration means that the government of the day will not do anything to support him as MP.”

His Party losing the main election means he must go the extra mile to serve his people without the support of the government of the day. He is representing one of the ‘difficult’ Constituencies in Greater Accra. What makes his case worse was declaration by the man he beat in the election that he will stage a comeback in the next election. This declaration means that the government of the day will not do anything to support him as MP. In Ghana, the ruling Party is always not willing to extent help to MPs of opposition Parties. The ruling Party wrongly assume that when they develop areas they do not have MPs, it will make things difficult for their candidates to beat those MPs in future.
Hon Ben Ayiku is one of such MPs suffering this ordeal. But he has found an antidote to this treatment. Things that the central government and the Municipal Assembly must do, which they will never do because of him, he has found a way to go around them. One of such is the picture attached. He is using his own grader to make roads motorable for his constituents. Some may downplay the significance of this, but if you live in a Constituency where the roads have developed cavernous potholes, you will appreciate what this MP is doing.
This may not solve the problem of roads in his Constituency but it is better than not attempting to do anything at all about the situation. Those who live in Constituencies like Trobu and Amasaman will appreciate this if they get an MP who can do this. Ordinarily, what Hon Ben Ayiku is doing with his own grader should have been done by the Municipal Assembly as remedial measure to the deplorable roads in the Constituency while they look up to central government through the Ministry of Roads and Highways to get it asphalted.
But like I said, the Assembly will not do it because Ben Ayiku is not an NPP MP. He is spending his own money to fuel the grader and pay workers. One would say he deserves no applauds because that was what he was elected to do. That may be true but in a country where other MPs have decided to turn blind eye to some of these challenges, it is just prudent that Ben Ayiku is appreciated and encouraged to do more. Acknowledging the challenges of your people and taking steps to solve them is no child’s play.
