The 2020 Auditor-General’s report has urged the Tema Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to ensure that some sixteen companies that are financially indebted to it do not connect meters secretly.
All the companies owed the Tema ECG GHc27,857,498.59 as at June 2019.
The report unraveled during the audit that, 16 companies are Special Load Tariff (SLT)
Companies.
“Our further review indicated that Management had disconnected the meters of these companies,” the report noted.
Albeit the Revenue Management Unit of the Tema ECG, had submitted the names of the defaulting companies to the Legal Department of the Head office to pursue them for recovery, which is a recommendation by the A-G, it went on to urge management to expedite action on the legal proceedings to recover the debt.
The report revealed failure to do that could land the Tema ECG in financial challenges.
