Be ready to arrest all of us if you arrest Basintale – John Jinapor tells Ghana Police

John Jinapor on arrest of Basintale

The Ghana Police Service has been cautioned against arresting Malik Basintale, the Deputy National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

On the morning of Thursday, September 5, rumors circulated that the young politician was facing imminent arrest by the police.

According to reports, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, allegedly instructed a senior officer identified only as Nketia to arrest Malik Basintale over his recent comments about the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

At a recent rally, Mr. Basintale claimed that Dr. Bawumia eats pork. This was in response to accusations made by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akim Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea, who alleged that former President John Mahama is “alcoholic.”

However, John Jinapor, the MP for Yapei Kusawgu, warned that any attempts to arrest Mr. Basintale will not be tolerated, asserting that the politician had done nothing to warrant such action.

“Let the Ghana Police note that we will not countenance any unlawful arrest of Malik Basintale. As far as I’m concerned he has done no wrong!!!.

“Without mincing words, I assure you, any such attempt will mean you must be ready to arrest all of us,” the former Energy Minister wrote on social media.
