The flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has backed the call from many Ghanaians regarding the high number of ministerial appointments.
Unlike the current administration, which has over 150 ministers and deputy ministers, the Vice President has indicated that, if elected, he will form a government with only 50 ministers.
Speaking at the launch of the party’s 2024 manifesto in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that he could be more effective with a leaner ministerial team.
He expressed the opinion that he would be very effective with a lean government, stating, “I will have no more than 50 ministers in my government”.
It is worth noting that John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has also promised to run a lean government with no more than 60 ministers
In a previous statement Mr. Mahama said, “I will run a lean, highly effective, and efficient government of no more than 60 ministers and deputy ministers. My leaner government will be the cleanest government Ghana has ever experienced. It will serve Ghanaians far better and set higher standards for future governments. What we have now can never be and should never be a yardstick.”
