He is expected to join millions of Muslims that will perform the activity in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
He was accompanied by his wife, Samira Bawumia.
The office of the Dr Bawumia said, while on the pilgrimage, the Vice President will use the spiritual exercise to pray for the nation and its citizens.
The Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Board, Sheikh I.C Quaye has said that over 5,000 Ghanaians are expected to perform Hajj this year.
He said his outfit has flown over 2000 people from Tamale and over 3000 from Accra to Mecca.
Dr. Bawumia is expected to return on August 27th.
