Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has taken a swipe at former President John Dramani Mahama for his failure to name a running mate with five months to go to the presidential elections.
Dr Bawumia himself received overwhelming endorsement by the members of the National Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Saturday, June 27 to partner President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the fourth time into an election.
The Vice President expressed gratitude to his leader for sticking with him particularly in 2012 and 2016 even after they lost in 2008.
The unveiling of the two makes the NPP the first party to name its candidates for the December 7 elections.
Nonetheless, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was the first party to elect a flagbearer for the elections.
But the circumstances of Covid-19 had stalled the selection of a running mate for former president John Dramani Mahama, allowing the NPP to do so ahead of the NDC. He has, however, stated on several platforms that he has already decided on who his running mate is.
He told supporters of the party in his last Facebook Live address that he is waiting for the Council of Elders and the National Executive Committee (NEC) to meet for him to make known that person to them.
But addressing the National Congress at the Alisa Hotel after his endorsement, Dr Bawumia insinuated that Mr Mahama is simply not decisive on his choice and not as a result of the pandemic.
“The best running mate in the world will not make a difference if the president is indecisive or incompetent,” the Vice President jabbed.
