Bawumia departs for Italy, scheduled to meet Pope Francis

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has left for a 2-day working visit to Italy

Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has left the shores of Ghana for Italy on a two-day working visit. He departed in the early hours of Tuesday, April 23.

The Veep, per a press statement from his office, will also visit the Vatican City.

According to his office, the Veep’s visit to the European nation is meant to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two nations.

“The Vice President, H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, departed Ghana last night for a working visit to the Republic of Italy and the Vatican State,” part of the press statement reads.

“This visit aims to further strengthen the enduring relations between Ghana, the Republic of Italy and Vatican State,” the statement indicated.

While in Italy, the Vice President, who’s the flagbearer of the ruling NPP, will hold bilateral talks with Italian government officials and business leaders. He is also scheduled to meet and have discussions with Pope Francis in the Vatican.

“Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is scheduled to hold bilateral talks, including with His Holiness Pope Francis.

Meanwhile, it is not known if he will be meeting with the Italian Prime Minister.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is expected to return to Ghana on Thursday, April 25, 2024.
