Ayawaso West Covid-19 mass testing: John Dumelo demands 5 critical answers

The NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, John Dumelo has raised some critical concerns on the plan COVID-19 mass testing for the people in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Municipality.

In the Facebook post sighted by Awake News, Mr. Dumelo said “I just came across an impending mandatory COVID-19 testing for all residents of Ayawaso-West starting tomorrow 1st April. I just have a few questions.”

According to him “We have over 100,000 individuals in Ayawaso West and going by the letter, it means 10,000 residents would be tested in a day for the 10 day period. We know there are only about 70,000 kits in Gh so far.”

“Do we have enough test kits in the country for this? Or is it going to be random sampling?” – he asked

He noted that “We know Noguchi can only process 150 cases a day” and wants to know if the UG’s medical research institution will be able to handle this mass testing within the 10days period as stipulated by the Assembly.

On the issue of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is the question Mr. Dumelo wants to be answered:

Are the medical and security personnel going to be in full PPE’s? Would they change each PPE when they enter each household?”

I just came across an impending mandatory COVID-19 testing for all residents of Ayawaso-West starting tomorrow 1st April. I just have a few questions.

1. Have the residents (communities) been duly informed about this?

2. We have over 100,000 individuals in Ayawaso West and going by the letter, it means 10,000 residents would be tested in a day for the 10 day period. We know there are only about 70,000 kits in Gh so far. Do we have enough test kits in the country for this? Or is it going to be random sampling?

3. We know Noguchi can only process 150 cases a day. Are they going to be able to handle this?

4. Are the medical and security personnel going to be in full PPE’s? Would they change each PPE when they enter each household?

5. What are the Technical modalities for this operation?

We welcome this exercise but we would be happy if these questions are answered from the appropriate authorities. Thanks
