Ave-Afiadenyigba residents lament over bad roads

Life doesn’t get any better for the people of Ave-Afiadenyigba in the Akatsi North district of the Volta region, especially during the raining season as a result of bad roads. Apart from the main Ho-Aflao highway which passes through the town, all other links (roads) to the town and its enclaves become inmotorable once the rains start.

Since the rains started, our checks from the roads reveal nothing different from the very old age story. The main link from Ave-Afiadenyigba New town to the Old Town (Gborxoxome), enjoining Seva, Agordza, Adzigo-Zomayi, Korve is in a very bad state.

Portions of the road have developed a deep gully making life very difficult for the residents of these communities, who are predominantly farmers in transporting themselves and farm products to the market.

Some residents who spoke to our news team tells how severe the situation has become.

“The roads are very bad, especially when the rain starts, you can’t use the road. Sometimes, the waters cover portions of the road in the big holes (gully) almost everywhere. Our children sometimes don’t go to school because of the nature of the road.

“The motor bikes can’t work, because you will only put yourself at risk. The whole lane becomes muddy. It’s unfortunate governments after governments have neglected our roads, for empty promises.”

“We don’t expect government to tarre the road for us, because we are used to the dust. But at least, they should reshape it and construct drainages along it, so that the rains won’t cause further damage to the road and ourselves.”

Speaking to our reporter, Alhaji Salihu Iddrisu, the assembly member for the Ave-Afiadenyigba/Dzayime electoral area, stated that he has been informed by the district assembly, that the road had been awarded for construction and hopes work begins quickly to alleviate the plights of his people.

Worryingly, there are several others of such roads within the district. Portions of the stretch from Ave-Hevi to Atiglime and villages beyond, including portions of the stretch from Matrikasa to Nuaxoave and beyond are equally in bad state.
