Atomic Gas Explosion: PALI lauds government for swift action

Mr. Frank Paa Kumi, Founding Director, PALI

A governance think tank, Passionate Africa Leadership Institute (PALI) has lauded government of Ghana, security and allied agencies for what it described as the ‘swift manner’ in which they handled the Atomic Gas explosion which occurred on Saturday October 7, 2017.

According to the Institute in the press statement signed by its Director, Mr. Frank Paa Kumi, “good governance is the urgency and tactfulness with which Leadership addresses confronting challenges”

PALI’s statement is coming in less than 2 weeks after the deadly gas [ads1]explosion at atomic junction that claimed seven lives, 132 people injured and millions of cadis lost.

Mr. Paa Kumi stated that the Institute welcomes the decision of Government to engage two hundred (200) inspectors to undertake regular audit of the operations of oil and gas retail outlets in the country.

He bemoaned the poor manner in which state institutions undertake the necessary checks and monitoring to ensure the safety of citizens and property.

Mr. Kumi also said the institute has declared its “unwavering support for the cessation of further construction of petroleum and LPG retail stations as directed by government”

According to him, the institute has fully endorsed the resolutions by cabinet to implement the policy of Cylinder Circulation but however, urged the those institutions that will in charge of the implementation of the policy to “critically, examine the possible associated risks” and inform government on how those risks should be mitigated

“The PALI-Center for Natural Capital Governance & Social Accountability fully endorses the resolutions by cabinet to implement the policy of Cylinder Circulation.  We, however, wish to urge policy makers and institutions that would be responsible for the implementation of the proposed model to, critically, examine the possible risks associated with the model and inform government on the appropriate measures to put in place to avert or at worse minimize those risks to the barest minimum.” – Mr. Kumi said

“As an institution that is focused on protecting the country’s natural capital, we are poised to assist the government in this course it is taking, especially in public education and policy advocacy, as we strive towards the political, social, and economic advancement of our beloved nation.” – He added
