The Member of Parliament(MP) for Asunafo North Constituency in Ahafo Region, Honourable (Hon) Evans Opoku Bobbie has donated some items to his constituents to fight against COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
The materials donated by the MP who is also the Regional Minister include 40 customized veronica buckets, liquid soaps and tissue papers.
Hon. Yaw Osei Bonsu, Municipal Chief Executive(MCE), Asunafo North, on behalf of the MP cum Regional Minister explained that the items presented to the constituency would be positioned at vantage places across the length and breath of the constituency for the people to wash their hands as expected and in accordance with directives of health professionals.
Hon. Bonsu stated per World Health Organization(WHO) the major step to combat coronavirus is effective hand washing with recommended soaps for at least 20 seconds so as an MP, his core duty is to make the materials available for his residents who voted for him. According to him hand washing must be part of those in the constituency henceforth in order to prevent them from been infected with the virus.
He mentioned that where the buckets are positioned are visible so all must wash their hands as many times as they can to stop the virus having access to their bodies. He advised them not to wait until they get home before washing their hands but rather approach the buckets in town to observe the practice anytime they are not home.
On the assembly ensuring that COVID-19 is not recorded the MCE categorically said measures are put in place for the safety of the people so there should be no fear and panic in the area. According to him the people mandated to map-up strategies to fight COVID-19 in the assembly or constituency are on top of issues although all the needed Personal Protective Equipments(PPEs) for health workers are inadequate.
” The assembly is grateful to some individuals, institutions and companies for presenting some preventive materials to fight the disease” MCE said.
The MCE also touched on other preventive measures his people must adhere to amid coronavirus by saying social distancing, covering mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing respectively, sanitizing the hands often, among others are all key if people want to be free from the disease.
He added that the region is not part of the areas affected with the lockdown initiative meaning people have the mandate to move freely and attend to the daily activities but extra caution must be taken because the disease is dreadful as the country has recorded over 200 infected cases with five deaths.
