Assin youth mount pressure on their chiefs, MPs to woo gov’t’s 1D1F project

Youth in Assin have thrown a challenge to their traditional leaders and Members of Parliament to put in place working mechanisms  to attract government’s industrial project, ‘One District-One Factory (1D1F).

The pressure group known as Network for Assin Development, believes the establishment of factories in Assin will open employment avenues for the jobless youth and further propel development in the various districts.

According to the Network, some chiefs in other areas embraced the initiative right from the onset, and have since been working eagerly to drive development in their communities.

“If we fail as a people to harness the opportunities this initiative brings, posterity will judge us some day to come, because we have no reason to hold this generation and unborn to ransome,” the Network for Assin Development said in a press statement.

The group said it is “shocking” to note that only few of their “chiefs are seen proactive while the rest seems to be unconcerned” about making efforts to get government bring the initiative to Assin.

“We want to inform them that development cannot take place without tireless and relentless effort. A great chief is the one, whose effort comes about positive change. As a network, we are much concern about development and we deserve it. We the youth of the Network for Assin Development are calling on all of our chiefs, political leaders ,great men and women, and business entities to team up and bring desirable development to Assin,” they stressed.

They further called on Members of Parliament in Assin and District and Municipal Chief Ex (MMCEs) to champion development in the various constituencies and districts.

The Network for Assin Development also bemoaned the state of their roads and accused governments of neglecting their communities.

“Most of our roads have never tasted construction since independence meanwhile; it’s one of the cocoa producing areas of the country. No government, so far, have ever tried to bring desirable change to improve our road network,” they said.

They also urged residents of Assin communities not to entertain politicians who are noted for deceiving electorates for votes while charging the youth to “unite and fight for common goal of development”.

According to the Network, the people of Assin are not lazy as being portrayed to the world by Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong.

“We vehemently reject the assertion that we are lazy as our Member of Parliament, Hon Kennedy Agyapong is portraying us to the world. It is, therefore, our collective right as youth to build a strong front to fight for what is genuinely ours. We want to tell the two strong political parties – New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC)- that we are ever ready to meet them ‘boot for boot’ at election time with their lies,” the statement signed by the leadership of the Network for Assin Development emphasized.
