The youth of Ashaiman, Awake News can report, are clandestinely planning a massive demonstration to draw the attention of the government to fix the deplorable roads in the constituency.
This will not be the first time such a huge demonstration will explode Ashaiman where similar street protests in the past over deplorable roads, have yielded some outcomes.
The first phase of the asphalt dual carriage road from the Adjei Kojo under bridge to the Timber Market roundabout is one of the outcomes of such explosive street protests the youth of Ashaiman staged in the past.
The construction of some inner roads in the municipality were ongoing, with others awarded on contract before government changed after the December 7, 2016, general elections and since then, the roads have been left to the mercy of the weather.
About 80 percent of the roads in Ashaiman are so torn that only rickety vehicles traverse them more as the affluent, who own well-conditioned vehicles, do not want to risk the lifespan of their vehicles.
On the Floor of Parliament, Ernest Henry Norgbey, the MP for the constituency, had raised concerns of the bad state of the roads in the area and on the back of that, implored on the government to turn its attention to Ashaiman.
The MP has, occasionally, acquired laterite to temporarily fill the potholes on some busy stretches for some travelling convenience.
Other times, he engaged the services of earth moving machines to shape part of the roads that are heavy with potholes but the remedies have not been lasting.
As the government continues to cock its ears on the calls by the MP for Ashaiman, the youth want to stage the explosive street protest to shake the seat of Government.
Wild demonstrations in Ashaiman had been characterised by bonfires and aggression that drew both heavily armed police and military personnel to the town, resulting in gory injuries to few demonstrators.
A related aggressive demonstration is what Awake News eavesdropped from the community.
