The flagbearer and leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has earned himself praises from Alhassan Suhuyini, Member of Parliament for Tamale North for his enormous contributions to the transformation of the telecommunications industry in Ghana when he served as the sector minister under the late President Jerry John Rawlings.
The Tamale North legislator, who is the ranking member on the Lands and Forestry Committee of parliament in cataloging some achievements of his party’s 2024 flagbearer stated: “If you called into a radio station to criticize him (John Mahama), first thank him for making it possible”.
Former president John Dramani Mahama recently revealed that during his tenure as minister of communications under the late president Jerry John Rawlings, he oversaw the revolution of the telecommunications industry in Ghana. He stated that it was the beginning of telecommunications companies entering the Ghanaian market, and as the sector minister, he swiftly ensured the deployment of mobile telephony in the south and extended the same to the northern of the country.
He added that he had to serve as a guarantor for the Northern Regions as the telecommunications companies were reluctant to extend service to the northern sector of the country for various reasons.
