Approval of Ken, Hawa, Kojo and others caused NDC so much pain and trouble – Dr. Lawrence cries

Ken OforiAtta-Hawa-Kojo

The Founder of the US-based Diaspora Progressive Movement, Dr. Lawrence Appiah has broken his long silence since the tsunami hit the opposition National Democratic Congress over the approval of some of President Akufo-Addo’s nominees.

In a brief comment on Awake News Room’s WhatsApp page, Dr. Lawerence said “The confirmation of Ken Ofori-Atta, Hawa Koomson, the ministers for the security agencies and Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has caused so much pain and troubles for the NDC, such that I don’t even know how we got there”

According to the prolific writer and a member of the NDC, the joy Ghanaians greeted with the manner in which the NDC MPs fought to on the night of January 6, 2021 get an NDC Speaker of Parliament has quickly faded away.

For him, recent events appear that getting an NDC Speaker in an NPP government doesn’t really matter as it is has been business as usual.

“The NDC MPs fought so hard to get Ghana an NDC Speaker of the 8th parliament but the joy Ghanaians greeted that historic achievement has quickly faded away. It is beginning to look like business as usual and an NDC Speaker in an NPP government doesn’t really matter.”

His worry however is that “depending on who you talk to, they will give you nice reasons why they should be confirmed or why they should not have been confirmed.”

Dr. Lawerence has since reminded the NDC that “The leadership of the NDC should be reminded that we have an election to win in 2024 and they should not get us started on a lame horse.”

The leadership of the NDC in Parliament has been in turmoil following the approval of some of President Akufo-Addo’s appointees which the larger members of the NDC and Ghanaians believe should never be passed to hold such a position again.

Following the “an acceptable approvals” National Communication Officer of the Party, Sammy Gyamfi openly attacked the integrity of the leadership of the NDC MPs and the Speaker of Parliament saying they have betrayed the NDC.

Three days ago, a member of the Appointment Committee from the NDC, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa resigned from the Committee citing personal principles though did not state the actual reason, many are of the view is in relation to the disagreements with the vetting and approvals.

The NDC in Volta Region has since thrown its weight behind the MP in what they described as a “landmark decision” but the Deputy Minority Chief Whip in Parliament who is MP for Banda, Ahmed Ibrahim disagrees and has since called on the North Tungu MP to resign as MP.

I have not started writing yet.
