The Anlo State on Wednesday December 2, 2020 called on the government of Ghana to stop the funeral arrangements of late former president Jerry John Rawlings.
Late Rawlings who passed on November 12, 2020 is yet to be giving a befitting burial, however government as part of its responsibilities, in the last three days announced it is making arrangements towards the burial and funeral rites of the late President.
This announcement has sparked a lot of agitation within his family as government didn’t consult them on the matter. With regards to this the Anlo state has issued a press statement asking president Akuffo Addo to put on hold all burial and funeral arrangements until further notice.
The statement signed by Togbi Agbesi Awusu II said ” we the chiefs of the Anlo Traditional council, the Head of the Agbotui, Tamakloe and Allied Families meeting today at the palace of the Awadada of Anlo state at Agorwowornu, Anloga resolved to petition the Head of state, H.E Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo to put on hold all preparations for the funeral and burial of the late Head of state Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings till further notice”.
“The late Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings was not only a former Head of State of the Republic of Ghana but also a Traditional Ruler of the Anlo State properly installed with all the rites, rituals and symbols according to Anlo custom and practices and must be accorded all the valedictory burial rites”.
