‘Always Wear Your Seatbelts’ – Elikem Kotoko after gory accident victim survives

Elikem Kotoko

A social media influencer and a politician, Elikem Kotoko has taken his “Always Wear Seatbelts” campaign to the next level after he witnessed a victim of a gory accident survived on the George Walker Bush Highway (N1) in Accra.

In a touching story of how he also contributed to saving the life of the accident victim, Mr. Kotoko said on his Facebook page sighted by Awake News, “A week ago around 10pm, while driving alone on the N1 heading home, I came across this accident scene that appeared very gory. In fact, at first sight, one will assume there were dead bodies because the sight of the vehicle could never give any hope of survival aboard. I pulled over some few meters away from the accident scene and noticed a truck fully loaded with cement also parked ahead of me; later found out was the reckless driver who nearly snatched the life of an actively vibrant 26year old gentleman who just came to Ghana on holidays owing to the COVID-19 pandemic and on his way to the gym.”

Elikem continued “As I got closer, human beings were busy either discussing what happened, taking selfies or normal pictures, etc. I am sure others too were busy trying to find an opportunity to take any value from within the accident car. I quickly asked if there were casualties and any survivors, then they pointed to one gentleman who was bleeding profusely from the head, ear, and from cuts all over the body.”

Elikem was however shocked that no drive was ready to convey the accident victim to the hospital with the accused that the oozing blood from the victim will mess inside their cars.

“Guess what, all vehicles that pulled over refused to be of help just because they felt the bleeding was going to “mess” the inside of their cars, so they just stopped, looked at the victim, and moved on.
Quickly, I offered to help, considering the fact that in the same week I have been preaching about seat belts on most of my posts and talking Volvo.”

According to Elikem, apart from God who saved the gentleman in this ‘gory’ accident, his seatbelt did too.

“Guess what, apart from God who saved the gentleman in this ‘gory’ accident, his seatbelt saved him because, without it, he would have been thrown out of the car and crash either beneath or atop the truck. You can see how the entire roof of the car was even ripped off. Seatbelts save lives.” – He said

In fact, at first sight, one will assume there were dead bodies because the sight of the vehicle could never give any hope of survival aboard. As I got closer, human beings were busy either discussing what happened, taking selfies or normal pictures, etc. I am sure others too were busy trying to find an opportunity to take any value from within the accident car
I quickly asked if there were casualties and any survivors, then they pointed to one gentleman who was bleeding profusely from the head, ear, and from cuts all over the body.

Guess what, all vehicles that pulled over refused to be of help just because they felt the bleeding was going to “mess” the inside of their cars, so they just stopped, looked at the victim and moved on
Quickly, I offered to help, considering the fact that in the same week I have been preaching about seat belts on most of my posts and talking Volvo.

Long and short of it, I took this gentleman to Nyaho where they didn’t have space for him and recommended either Ridge or 37, but by which time I managed to get in touch with both parents and they advised that their son be sent to KorleBu, so we did.

Though it was late, I must confess the usual lackadaisical approach to work that KorleBu is tagged for was missing and all who attended to the gentleman did so in good time and they deserve commendation.
In the end, it even turned out that the father of this young man is a very known person to many around me and before I could say jack, word reached him about me the next day so he asked that I come to his office which I did.
Even at the hospital, one gentleman (name withheld) who came with the family just mentioned my name outright and said, “aarrhhh are you Elikem?” I responded in the affirmative and he said, “I know you so well on Facebook, we’ve never met by I follow you”

The rest is history. Folks, you could be driving carefully on the road in your lane but it takes just one wrong move or one reckless driver to mess you up as was in the case of this young man who the Almighty used me to save. His mother has become my mother too and the dad equally mine, such is the world.

Do good, it doesn’t matter if you know the beneficiaries. Your generations will come to reap the fruits of that. I have always believed that a lot of good things that come my way today are as a result of the very good I know my parents did.

Guess what, apart from God who saved the gentleman in this ‘gory’ accident, his seatbelt saved him because, without it, he would have been thrown out of the car and crash either beneath or atop the truck. You can see how the entire roof of the car was even ripped off. Seatbelts save lives.

Give thanks to Volvo Cars for inventing the seat belt and most especially Nils Bohlin
