In a momentous announcement on Sunday, April 13, 2025, the Akyem Tafo Traditional Council officially launched preparations for the celebration of the 2025 Ohumkan Festival.

The upcoming event also coincides with the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the enstoolment of Daasebre Adusei Peasah IV, the respected Omanhene of Akyem Tafo under the Akyem-Abuakwa Traditional Council in the Eastern Region.

The event, held at the forecourt of the Tafo Anwansa Ahenfie, was attended by traditional leaders, opinion leaders, community members, and the media.

Delivering a keynote address on behalf of the Traditional Council, Kyidomhene Nana Adepa Amponsah Yeboah I emphasized the dual significance of the year’s celebration, noting that the milestone is both a cultural and developmental landmark for the people of Akyem Tafo.

“Leadership is a critical ingredient in development, and Daasebre Adusei Peasah IV has demonstrated unmatched commitment to Akyem Tafo’s progress in education, health, youth empowerment, and culture over the past four decades,” the Kyidomhene stated.

Since ascending the stool in 1985, Daasebre Adusei Peasah IV has led with a vision that blends traditional authority with contemporary development. Under his leadership, Akyem Tafo has seen transformative projects, such as the establishment of the Akyem Tafo Educational Fund, aimed at supporting underprivileged but brilliant students.

He has also spearheaded regular community health screenings and contributed to infrastructure development, including the construction of Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds.

A multipurpose community resource centre, currently under construction, stands as a testament to his enduring legacy.

Daasebre’s efforts have not gone unnoticed beyond national borders.

In 2015, he received international acclaim when he was awarded the Best Cocoa Flavour Award by the International Cocoa Awards in France — a recognition of his contribution to agricultural excellence and environmental sustainability.

The 2025 Ohumkan Festival will be held under the theme of unity, progress, and cultural pride.

The festivities will begin with a traditional ban on drumming and noise-making from June 3 to June 17.

This period will set the tone for a week-long series of cultural events, beginning June 18, and culminating in a grand durbar on Saturday, June 21.

The festival will feature traditional performances, inter-school competitions, health outreaches, and the much-anticipated launch of the Tafoman Development Fund.

Additional highlights include a local cooking contest, a football gala, youth talent exhibitions, and an interdenominational thanksgiving service.

These events are aimed not only at entertainment but also at fostering community spirit, encouraging creativity, and boosting local tourism.

The Traditional Council has called on all stakeholders — from government bodies and civil society to media and private entities — to support the festival and make it a landmark event in the history of Akyem Tafo.

“The 2025 Ohumkan Festival is not just about celebration; it is about charting a new course for development, unity, and cultural pride,” Nana Adepa Amponsah Yeboah I concluded.
