Akufo-Addo disowns NAPO; says CSE will not be implemented under his watch

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has emphatically stated that his government will not approve the teaching of homosexuality in schools.

There have been concerns that the new curriculum for basic schools has one of its topics Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE). Many have explained the CSE to be the teaching of lesbianism, gay, bi-sexual, and transgender (LGBT).

But speaking at the St Cyprians Anglican Church in Kumasi on the controversial CSE on Sunday, October 6, the President says his vision is to have an educated country for national development not to promote immorality, that the Ghanaian culture frowns on.

He has therefore called on all to reject claims that his government will introduce comprehensive sexuality education.

“The Free SHS was rolled out to empower the citizens but, was not to teach unnecessary things,” President Akufo-Addo said in Twi.

Byt take a look at these events on the CSE as summarised by Lawyer Edudzi Tameklo:

1. In November 2018 the Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta in presenting President Akufo-Addo’s budget for 2019, page 86, said the Government was clear on the implementation of the CSE!

2. In February 2019, at a conference of Education Ministers of Africa in Ghana on ways to implement CSE to some African countries. The Minister of Education Matthew Opoku Prempeh reiterated the commitment of the Akufo-Addo Government to implement the CSE by September 2019.

3. 15th March 2019 thereabout, this matter goes to Cabinet and was thoroughly discussed. In the presence of the President and the Vice President!

4. And then they started implementation for the beginning of the school year in September.

5. The GES on August 8, 2019 wrote a letter to concerned Regional Directors of Education informing directing them to send 25 members from district and region to be trained on CSE

6. A trainers training was held at KNUST for selected teachers from August 26 to 30 on CSE with the theme TRAINING OF TRAINERS FOR REGIONAL AND DISTRICT TEAMS ON COMPREHENSIVE SEXUALITY EDUCATION

7. When the teaching materials for the CSE got to the public, it caused fear and panic. A Legal Practitioner Moses Foh-Amoaning and his Coalition put out information in a press conference challenging the government to come out clean and to abandon the idea of introducing CSE to our Schools, starting with 4 to 5 years olds.

8. The Minister for Education Matthew opoku prempeh came out in a press conference and denied flatly of anything like that being implemented by GES and the Government.

9. When evidence of what was going on including the minister’s own video recording of him assuring the international community of implementation of CSE in Ghana by September 2019. He quickly came back to accept knowledge, but said it wasn’t approved!

Where does the NDC and 2015 come in here?
Pure incompetence and untidy communication!
