Akufo-Addo directs TUC to meet Labour Minister over SSNIT Hotels sale

President Nana Akufo Addo has directed the Employment and Labour Relations Minister, Ignatius Baffour Awuah to Trades Union Congress (TUC) over the sale of six SSNIT Hotels to Rock City Hotel owned by the Agriculture Minister, Byran Acheampong.

The Secretary-General of TUC, Dr. Yaw Baah revealed the President’s directive after TUC called on him for a meeting to discuss the issue of the takeover.

“We wrote to the president that we needed to engage him on this [sale of the SSNIT hotels]. He has referred it to the [Employment and Labour Relations] Minister to start the engagement with us. We are hoping that these engagements will help all of us to find a solution to what we think is a problem” he said.

Yaw Baah said apart from meeting the Employment Minister, they will also meet with the board of SSNIT on the same issue.

“We are going to meet with the SSNIT Board. Organized labour leaders are going to meet with the SSNIT Board and also with the Employment and Labour Relations Minister who is also in charge of pensions.”

The six hotels are:
1) Labadi Beach Hotel (5-Star/164 Rooms)
2) La Palm Royal Beach Resort (4-Star/152 Rooms)
3) Elmina Beach Resort (3-Star/100 Rooms)
4) Ridge Royal Hotel (3-Star/79 Rooms)
5) Busua Beach Resort (3-Star/62 Rooms)
6) Trust Lodge Hotel (Purpose-Built-Hospitality-Block/10 Rooms)
