Akufo-Addo appoints new board for GBC: A fulfillment of the ‘Agyapadie Book’?

Nana Akufo-Addo, President of Ghana

President Nana Akufo-Addo on August 1, 2024 appointed new members to the board of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) and other three state-owned media outlets as predicted in the controversial ‘Agyapadie Book’.

The Graphic Communications Group Limited, the Ghana News Agency, and the New Times Corporation all saw changes to their board during the reshuffle exercise organized by President Akufo-Addo.

The appointments, which was in line with Article 168 of the Constitution and Section 2(1)(e) of the National Media Commission Act, 1993 (Act 449), was said to be an action to refresh leadership at state media institutions.

However, the new appointments have received mixed reaction from the general public. While some have described it as a normal practice, others have also linked it to the predictions in the infamous ‘Agyapadie Book’. A portion of the book, which has been titled “Hijacking GBC”, predicts how some members of the ruling party are trying to control the media landscape in the country.

The appointments are as follow:

Ghana Broadcasting Corporation

Graphic Communications Group Limited

Ghana News Agency

New Times Corporation
