The Director of IT and Elections of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has issues a sharp warning to the Electoral Commission of Ghana following the death of the leader of the Ghana Freedom Party.
The Electoral Commission in a statement signed by Jean Mensa said the death of the Madam Donkor has led to the suspension of the printing of ballot papers though most of ballot papers are near completion.
According to the Commission the 1992 constitution does not provide any clear processes to follow in the event that a candidate on the ballot paper dies but quoted section of the constitution which provides that in such events, ten days should be allowed for the affected party to nominate a new candidate.
“Electoral Commission Ghana, we shall not accept automatic re-arrangement of positions on the ballot!
Just note it and keep it holy!” – Dr. Boamah reacted to the EC’s statement on his Facebook page.
But the proactive Dr. Omaneh Boamah has raised a red flag as prior to the passing of Madam Akua Donkor the NPP’s Bernard Antwi Bosiako (Chairman Wontumi) vow to change the Number 8 position of NDC’s Presidential Candidate, John Mahama
If readers will recall, the ruling NPP staged a campaign message of “Breaking The 8” for the past 2years and have many public material with the Number 8. However, on the secret balloting for the position on the 2024 presidential ballot paper, the NDC rather picked 8 whiles the NPP picked 1 going a very long way to terribly affecting NPP’s long adopted “8”.
This picking of Number 8 position of the NDC virtual ended the NPP’s breaking the 8 mantra.
