From Sammy Asare, Ahafo Kenyasi.
The National Democratic Congress(NDC) Parliamentary Candidate(PC) for Asutifi North Constituency in the Ahafo Region has donated some items worth thousands of cedis to the security services in the constituency to prevent the outbreak of coronavirus/COVID-19 disease.
The items presented to the Asutifi North Police Command and the OIC Kenyasi Prisons Camp include veronica buckets, sanitizers, liquid soaps, carbolic soaps, washing bowls, tissue papers and packs of toilet roll.
Mr. Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, NDC Parliamentary Candidate, said been proactive is better than reactive so he thought it wise to support the two government institutions where human interactions are engaged on a high level to prevent the officers, inmates, those at cells and the public against the COVID-19 disease which as at 21st March 2020(Saturday) the country has recordes 19 cases with one(1) dead.
Explaining to the PAPER the people at the said institutions stand at the risk of easily been infected with the disease incase it breaks in the district due to the nature of their work so therefore all the needed support to prevent it hitting them must be observed. To him the government is trying its best to furnish them with the preventive items but other hands must be on deck to provide the materials in abundance.
The Head of OIC Kenyasi Prisons Camp, Chief Superintendent D.Y. Mensah, on behalf of the Director of Prisons, Regional Commander of Prisons, his colleague and inmates thanked the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for supplying them with materials to prevent them against the deadly disease which is spreading in the country so easily.
He explained although the institution has put measures in place for the safety of officers, inmates and visitors what the Parliamentary Candidate has done is so refreshing because it will cement them combating the disease. He therefore made a passionate appeal to individuals and companies to supply them with infrared/thermometre gun to enable them check the temperatures of those who visit them often. He said currently it is the major device the institution lacks so the public must come to their aid.
Chief Insoector Akowuah Sankara, Head of Kenyasi Police Division on behalf of the Inspector General of Police and the District Police Command said his institution is most grateful to the PC for having them in mind in such a crutial moment where the country is mapping up all the necessary measures to combat the wide spread of the coronavirus disease.
He said the number of people visiting the police on daily basis is huge so it is good for the institution to have all the needed materials to prevent themselves because if officers become infected it will affect the security measures put in place for the entire district. Police Officers can not attend to their posts as expected and it will not be a pleasant news at for all.
He also urged others to support other institutions and individuals in the district to prevent the people from contacting the disease.
