ACILA, Awake Africa invite the public to rate Akufo-Addo as he marks 1 year in office

Research and education think tank, Africa Centre for International Law & Accountability (ACILA) and Awake Africa, a pan African media have launched an online performance rating platform to enable the public to rate President Akufo-Addo’s performance as he marks one year in office.

[ads1]The rating according to the two organizations is necessitated by a research conducted by ACILA during the 2016 general elections, which shows the issues affecting Ghanaians that will inform their voting choices at the polls.

According the nationwide survey, out the issues that would determine the vote of the electorate and the order of importance, respondents identified Jobs (22%) and Cost of Living (22%) as the two key issues that would determine their vote followed by Corruption (20%), Education (13%), Health (9%), Infrastructure (9%) and Peace & Security (5%).

The bodies noted that “on December 7, 2016, the electorates unseated incumbent president, Mr. John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), giving the mandate to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with nearly 10% margin of victory”

This could imply that the Ghanaian voters are of the view that the John Mahama led NDC government did not do enough to provide them jobs and couple with a high cost of living in the country. The participants on the survey were also of the view that the NDC government did not do enough to tackle corruption and improve Education, Health, Infrastructure and Peace & Security.

“After nearly one year in office, ACILA in collaboration with Awake Africa invites you to rate the performance of President Akufo-Addo based on the seven key issues the electorate had identified on the survey.” the two bodies said.

According to the two bodies, the survey results which will be published online on January 7, 2018 and also in the Tuesday, January 9, 2018 edition of Awake Newspaper is to help the voter express their views on how they perceive the government to be performing and or last performed for their year under review.
