A member of the Communication Team of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Elikem Kotoko has taken the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah to the cleaners describing him as a “useful idiot”.
The vociferous youth activist was reacting to a news report quoting the Information Minister to have described Minority’s petition to US Ambassador to Ghana to investigate the PDS scandal as ’embarrassing’ and ‘disappointing’.
The Minority in Parliament has petitioned the United States Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Stephanie S. Sullivan demanding formal investigations by the United States government into one of the biggest PDS scandal which has hit the country with top government officials being accused.
In a press statement, the Minority said the petition signed by the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu was delivered at the US Embassy in Accra by the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
The Minority, therefore, wants to trigger investigations under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of the United States of America especially after “a clearer picture is now emerging that the Akufo-Addo Government stands complicit with top functionaries and cronies neck-deep in the putrescent sleaze.”
But, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah in a interview on Accra based radio station Neat Fm disagrees with the Minority’s decision saying “We don’t have to downplay our pride, sovereignty; you can collaborate with someone, there is nothing wrong with that but telling them you don’t have confidence in a government and so they should take over an investigation, because of politics; it’s never done,”
This statement from the Information Minister seems to have revoked the visibly long anger in Elikem Kotoko telling the Minister “It was not even embarrassing when a whole political party wrote an infantile petition to the NEW YORK TIMES over a gentleman called Kevin Ekow Kevin Taylor whose wife works there, simply because he [Kenvin] is exposing your rots”
“I guess democracy must be redefined because of elements such as you Kojo and the entire NPP, kpordawoe (look!), you have angered us enough with the untold economic hardships, please keep mute let me chew on my “ebro ena nkatie”” – he fumes
“For those blind party loyalists who will come and play either midfield or Central defense, oya!!!”
“A useful idiot is what you have become” – he said
