5 key things you didn’t know about Dr Cassiel Ato Forson

Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson is the current leader of the Minority in the Parliament of Ghana. The Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam legislator is an economist, chartered accountant, tax professional and entrepreneur with professional experience spanning more than two decades in the private and public sectors.

Ato Forson is widely revered in the Central Region for his commitment to his constituents and celebrated throughout Ghana for his economic prowess.

Here are five facts you didn’t know about the Minority Leader:

A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation

Forson is a chartered accountant and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Ghana. The Oxford-trained tax specialist is currently serving his fourth term as an MP and is a highly accomplished professional with over two decades of experience.

PhD in Finance from KNUST

The legislator recently bagged a PhD in Business and Management (Finance Option) from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

Apart from the PhD, Ato Forson has a Master of Science in Taxation from the University of Oxford, UK, a Master of Science in Economics also from KNUST, and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from London South Bank University.

Influential roles in the public sector

His professional career has been marked by influential roles in Ghana’s public sector, including as Deputy Minister for Finance from April 2013 to January 2017 and as a member of Ghana’s Economic Management Team. He served on the Boards of the Bank of Ghana, and Ghana Cocoa Board and as Ghana’s Alternate Governor at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.

His expertise was put to use as chairman of the Committee that implemented the Ghana Integrated Financial Management Information System Reforms (GIFMIS).

Public purse protector

Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has championed many initiatives related to quality education, health care, job creation and poverty alleviation. As a Ranking Member of the Finance Committee, he led numerous crusades to protect the public purse.
