A Research Fellow at the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), Dr. John Osae-Kwapong has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to reassure the Ghanaian public of its independence and impartiality ahead of December elections.

Speaking on The Big Issue on Citi TV on Saturday, Dr Osae-Kwapong reiterated the decline in public confidence on the Electoral Commission, hence the need for the EC to reassure the public of its commitment in conducting free, peaceful and fair elections.

“…I am hoping that between now and December the actions and the inactions of the EC would reassure not even just our political parties but also reassure the citizens that they are independent, impartial fair arbiters of this election,” he said.

Meanwhile the opposition NDC in a press conference on Thursday called on traditional leaders and other stakeholders to focus on the EC’s attitude of turning a deaf ear to all advice raised in the ongoing limited voter registration.

If reader can recall, EC declined NDC’s request to record all the serial numbers of the Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits used in the ongoing Limited Voter Registration.

The NDC chairman has also accused the EC of attempts operate in opaqueness adding that NDC’s registration agents nationwide will resist attempts by the EC to forsake transparency in the voter registration exercise.

“We wish to serve notice and notice is hereby served that NDC registration agents across the country will resist the EC’s clandestine attempts aimed at diminishing transparency in the voter registration exercise”.
