18year old priest denied SHS admission

Togbe Tuove Awunyo II

An 18 years old fetish priest Felix Galley, known as Togbe Tuove Awunyo II, a native of Ative-Minawokorpe a village in the Ketu North District of the Volta Region has been denied admission by the Dzodze-Penyi High School as a result of “priestly cap” that he is wearing.

The 18 year old boy, Togbe Tuove Awunyo II was told he could only be admitted if he removes the cap, a call the young priest has declined, saying that could bring to him and the entire community devastating occurrences.

“I gained admission in the Dzodze-Penyi Senior High School but was told I can only be admitted if I remove my cap, but according to our culture, there is no way I can remove it. I tried explaining to the school authorities but they insisted I remove it before being admitted”. he told Citi News

“I could go mad and many things could happen to my community if I remove my cap in public. I have won this cap for 13 years and no one ever dared ask me to remove it because they know the repercussions”. he added.

The headteacher of the school Mr. Mathew Troha, however, insisted that the action is in line with the school’s code, which includes dress code among others.

He was quick to add also that Togbe Tuove Awunyo II, can only be admitted if he writes officially to the school for such exemptions.

The belief is a long age one within the ‘trorxovi’ cult that prevents the priests (Trornua) from walking without the cap. The cap if removed is said to have some devastating spiritual effects on the priests and members of the cult.
